A Partnership to Transform Chemistry and Biotechnology Curricula

ASU West (ASUW) has partnered with Glendale Community College (GCC) to enhance and transform undergraduate organic chemistry, biochemistry, and biotechnology curricula at both campuses and beyond.  A recently submitted proposal to the NSF Transforming Undergraduate Education in STEM  (TUES) program describes our approach to this transformation.  As a part of our collaboration, we plan to devise NMR-experiments that both ASUW and GCC students will perform during the first and second semester organic chemistry labs.  Detailed methodologies for one of these experiments can be found below.  The effectiveness of these experiments will be assessed through pre- and post-laboratory quizzes and surveys, and both the laboratory documentation and results will be disseminated by publication in journals such as the Journal of Chemical Education (JCE) and presentation at American Chemical Society National meetings.
